Slips, Spanx, and Only Hearts
Holy smokes! It only now occurred to me that my dress is sheer and I am getting married at sunset! That equals a disaster. So I set out on the excruciating task of finding the perfect slip. My dress is made of a few fine layers of matte silk and any bulky slip would surely be noticed by all. Secondly, the gown was strapless and floorlength. I needed a very thin, body contouring, strapless, floorlength, white slip – oh and in less than 26 days. Easy as pie, right? Haha…
I visited ALL of my local department stores – no need to name each one, please just assume what ALL encompasses in South Florida. What did I find? Nothing. Not even a helpful tip. I returned home and in defeat began a mad search on the internet. SPANX – you rock! I had heard of SPANX I think on Oprah – or some other trend producing talk show. It was love at first click because of the words “fabric wisks moisture away from skin for a cool, dry feel”. Just the words every hot-humid-sticky-beach-destination-bride-to-be wants to hear.
But will it fit? Do I have time to return and research if not? Hmmmm… out comes the credit card and off flies $72 for the slip and another half that cost for overnight shipping. (Which we all know isn’t really overnight because every company reserves the right to take a few days packaging the pretty little things in their warehouse.) Anyway, that was done and it was time to search for “Plan B”.
Plan B brought me to Only Hearts. Great reviews on a few wedding attire websites but no idea where to purchase them locally. Called headquarters and they couldn’t even tell me. (My point of reference for my own level professional customer service is constantly changing.) Anyway, once again I resorted to an internet purchase and half the cost of the slip in shipping.
Now I am off to stalk the post man and await my treasures…. if neither work, well then, my new husband’s family will simply see what my family has seen for years… the part of my body I like the least, my scrawny legs.
One Response to “Slips, Spanx, and Only Hearts”
Hey, I had an idea AFTER I wore my sheer ivory organza gown with a full length slip with the straps peeking out occasionally to my black-tie event…. I should have bought and worn 2 slips at the same time – the strapless one and then another one UNDER it worn at the waist. That way they overlap (If the bottom seam of the strapless one was thin – it wouldn’t have shown a line). I hate hindsight!!!!!!!!! I hope this helps you in case none of your slips work.
